1) Set up Google Analytics
Google Analytics will be your buddy for as long as you will be blogging. This platform will give you detailed reports based on your blog visitors. Some of the most important reports are:
- Real-time audience – This shows you how many people are reading your blog in the current time.
- Audience – Shows how many users visited your blog in a specified date or date range, their location, gender, age, platform, etc.
- Behaviour – In this section you can see the behavior of your blog visitors, what pages are they visiting, how much did they stay at your blog, etc.
- Events – You can track events click on your blog. For example, you can set up an event to trace the clicks of a download button.
To start gathering data from Google Analytics you have to place their tracking code in your template header, right after the body tag.
If you get template updates, it is recommended to use any google analytics plugin because, during the theme update, the header file might get overwritten.
2) Create a Sitemap
A sitemap is an XML page with all the article links of your blog. The purpose of this page is to help Google identify your articles faster. You may choose to create it yourself or you can use the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress.
To install the Yoast SEO Plugin proceed as below:

4) Build an E-mail list
Emil subscribers are described as loyal visitors because they have chosen to get frequent updates from your blog. Building a subscriber list may seem difficult at first but, if you create a subscribe form right after launching your blog, in a short period of time you will see your list growing.
Remember to place the subscribe form in a place where it is visible for all users. Some of the most efficient places are:
- Below the menu
- A popup
- In the top of the sidebar
After you get the first subscribers, start sending emails regularly but don’t send a lot of emails because some subscribers might get annoyed by them. It is better if you send just one or two emails per week to your subscribers.
This is the first contact of you with your subscribers so you have to send the valued content.
5) Set up a contact form
Setting up a contact form and responding to every email within a short period of time will make your blog look serious. This contact form will put you in contact with visitors or with people looking for partners.
Your contact form must be always running because you never know when someone is going to require an advertisement space on your blog or making a partnership deal.
In the first steps of blogging, it won’t be difficult to respond to all the emails because there won’t be too many emails.
6) Set up a comment form for your articles
This is where you get opinions related to your article. A comment form is a must in every article because it will be a point of contact between you and your blog visitors.
These comments will help you improve your articles. To be honest your articles at the beginning of blogging won’t be as good as when you earned some experience.
Lots of people are blogging nowadays and tons of articles are being published every day but an article with positive comments will make it more reliable in the eyes of your blog visitors.
All you have to do is to create useful content and make sure to interact with all commenters. People love to be noticed online so, responding them will make them come back to your blog and discuss in any topic of your blog
7) Set up social media accounts
After creating your first articles you go and create some social media accounts. Since the blog is new your articles won’t get visitors if you don’t show them to people. A good way to get the first visitors is from social media.
Quality articles will always attract readers since it’s easy to share a good article among friends in there.
Join groups or communities on social media. You can get a lot of traffic from them. Just make sure not to spam them with link posting. Join them in conversations, exchange ideas or opinions and suggest your article if you think it will be of any help.
And don’t forget to keep your social media account updated regularly. Post your new articles, respond to messages, add all information in your profile and you are good to go.
8) Make sure your template is SEO friendly
A well structured and SEO friendly blog template will rank better on search engines and will bring more organic traffic to your website.
Even though the content quality is the key to SEO, having a well structured and SEO friendly template gives you better results.
Here are some tips on how to check if your website is SEO friendly:
- Check if images have alt attributes.

- Determine if HTML is structured properly with https://validator.w3.org/
- Check if meta tags are displayed correctly.
- Check if your template uses H1-H6 tags.
- Make sure to install Yoast SEO plugin (Install instructions on step 2)
Another important thing is to set up an SSL certificate for our domain because google is marking the non-https websites as “not secure”.
The rest of the SEO optimizations belong to your content and keyword research.
The whole thing mentioned above will accompany you as long as you will be blogging. It’s important to check them frequently so you keep an eye on how your website is doing.
If you follow the above steps frequently, all is left to do is create quality articles for your audience. This is the most important thing in blogging and often the hardest part.
